The pass percentage of students in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class XII examination declared on Monday, came down by few points at the six Kendriya Vidyalayas (KV) in Goa.
Most of the principals were quite disappointed with the results. Both Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, however, were able to secure 100% results.
This year, the results of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Vasco I, dropped to 96.43% as compared to last year's 100%. Out of 112 students who appeared for the CBSE exam, 47 passed with distinctions, 45 first class and 16 second class. Seventy five students had appeared in the science stream and 37 have appeared in commerce.
In science, Gaurav Kumar Jha secured first place in school with 94.4% followed by Anant Kumar with 92.6% and Urvashi Singh with 92.2%. In commerce, Nirjhari Joshi secured first place with 94.8% followed by Manisha Jodha 87.4% and Arushi Mathur 85.8%, said principal Velayudhan K P.
Similarly, for Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV), Vasco II too, it was quite disappointing as the school's pass percentage stood at 91.8. Last year, it was 97.29 passing percent. Sixty one students appeared for the exams of which 56 have passed with 15 distinctions, 31 first class and 10 second class. Of the 44 science stream students Ankur Shukla secured 90.4%, Sanjika Sharma 87.4% and Pooja Goswami 86.8%. In commerce Arpita Yadav secured the first rank in the school with 81.6% followed by Jyoti Shama, 81.4%, and Lalit Kumar with 78.4 %, said a teacher, Prajun P P.
Kendriya Vidyalaya, Bambolim, has similar results with 92.6% passing compared to last year's 100%. Of the 41 students who appeared for the exams, 38 passed including nine distinctions, 18 first class and 14 second class. In science, 28 students appeared, of which 25 passed and Divya Modi secured the first rank in the school with 95.4% followed by Sneha Choudhary, 90.6% and Sanketa Kundalkar with 84.6%. In the commerce stream, Girija Vasavanni secured the first place with 86.6% followed by Ashish Kumar, 81.2%, and Steffy Anna, 77.4%, said the principal, Rupa Katiya.
Kendriya Vidyalaya, Verem has relatively a lower pass percentage. It dropped to 83.77% as compared to 97.04% last year. Out of 37 who appeared, 31 passed with two distinctions, 26 first class and three second class. In science, Shreyas Shenoy secured topped the school with 92.4% followed by T N Rakesh, 89.8%, and Vyas Chaudhari, 82.2%. In commerce, Gautam Malik secured first place with 81% followed by Pooja Prashad, 63.3% and Monisha Murthy, 62.6%, said principal Kishor Kumar.
It was no different story for Ponda Kendriya Vidyalaya as its passing percent went down to 75 compared to last year's 93. Out of 17 students who appeared, 13 have passed with four distinctions, four first class and five second class. Basukinath Mishra secured 83% followed by Tanay Gahlot with 81% and Anurag Vishnath with 80.2%, said D R Suresh Babu.
Navy Children School, Chicalim, did well though the pass percentage was lower than last year's 100% result. This time it is 98 pass percent. Out of 62 students who took the exam in the science stream, 61 have passed with 32 distinctions, 27 first class and 2 second class. Susanna Thomas secured the first rank with 94% followed by Sharanda Sharma, 93%, and Shena Mohan, 92%, said principal R Vijayaraj.
While both Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya secured 100% results, 23 students from Navodaya, Valpoi, appearing in the arts stream. Out of which 12 secured distinctions and 21 first class. Shradha Guruda secured first place with 85% followed by Bhakti Parab with 83% and Vishakha Harmalkar with 82.4 %. In Navodaya, Canacona, of the 31 students appearing in the science stream, 16 got distinctions and 15 first class.
Rakesh Knoth secured first place with 92.66% followed by Prashad Sangodkar 89% and Chandrakant Raikar 86.6%.
